AS CEO, NOW IS THE TIME FOR YOU TO LOOK AHEAD AND LEAD THE REBOUND OF YOUR COMPANY BUT HOW CAN YOU DO THAT WHEN IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PREDICT WHAT WILL HAPPEN BEYOND THIS WEEK? As CEO, looking back on the last few months is truly surreal. For most of us, it has been an unexpected, unwelcome and dramatic situation that has required us to manage our customers, organisations and not least our people in new ways. Fortunately, evidence shows that most Nordic executives were up for the job and have managed to steer their organisations through these first critical months. We know more now. At least we have the perception of being more in control. But we are not back to normal. Some say we never will be. And most agree that the COVID-19 crisis will bring significant changes to how we do business. We probably don’t know how this will pan out for several months. Despite this, most CEOs will soon need to look further ahead and change their mindset from reactive to more proactive. Boards, owners and not least employees will start asking “What now? – what are the expectations for the next 6-9 months and what is the plan to get us there?” However, the old ways of defining strategy will no longer work. We need to acknowledge the dynamics and speed of the changes we are facing – and acknowledge that this calls for new ways of defining strategies. The pace of change will make it necessary to strategise and execute simultaneously.
