Fire Suppression Upgrade Solutions Available fire suppression solutions designed to protect service technicians against thermal events while decreasing the risk of irreparable turbine damage or extended downtime Preparing for the unexpected Fire hazard incidents are very rare, but their implications can potentially be severe: Service technicians can be exposed to dangerous thermal events and an incident can significantly disrupt the operation of a wind turbine. To increase safety and improve business-case certainty, Vestas offers a full suite of fire suppression upgrade solutions, installation and maintenance across most turbine brands and platforms. The three categories include fire suppression blankets, canisters, and tubular systems. Aerosol Fire Suppresion This fire suppression solution uses solid particles (potassium alkali salt mixed and propelled with N2 inert gas) as suppression agent. The canister is placed in the turbine area where the fire needs to be suppressed and does not need a piping network, which makes installation and maintenance easy. Aerosol Fire Suppression system can be installed in the Cabinet, Transformer and Nacelle area of the turbine. Gas Solution This fire suppression systems uses an agent FK-5-1-12 (Novec 1230 3M) and places the canister outside of the area where the fire needs to be suppressed, requiring a pressurized tubes piping network. This enables a very targeted protection by channeling an extinguishing agent through metal pipes or rubber tubes, releasing it at the exact location of the thermal event. This solution is space efficient, as cylinders can be placed in a single central and convenient location. This allows for detection and suppression in hard to reach areas of the turbine that may otherwise be unprotected.
