The Autoclave can corrode Corrosion while using the autoclave can occur if: n Autoclave is not operating properly n Corrosive materials are in contact with instruments n Tap water instead of distilled water is used to generate steam n Surgical wrappings have residue from soap, bleach etc. n Improper drying time after sterilization To avoid Problems in Sterilizing n Make sure there is no foreign material in steam pipes n Door seal must be tight n Entire cycle should be run in order to reduce condensation and ensure thorough greying n Distilled water should be used n Valves should be in good shape n Cloths used to wrap instruments should be free from residual detergents, bleaches, and starch n Do not autoclave chrome with stainless steel Ultrasonic Cleaning This is the most effective way to clean the instruments. Follow the manufacturers recommendation for mixing the solution and the duration of the cleaning cycle. Before putting soiled instruments into an ultrasonic cleaner, we recommend that they must be cleaned, in a cleaning solution, of all visible debris clinging to them. n Do not mix different metals (like chrome and stainless steel) in the same cycle n Open all instruments so ratchets and box lock are accessible n When loading, avoid piling instruments on top of each other. This could damage the delicate instrument n After the cycle is finished, remove instruments immediately and rinse them n Dry instruments immediately after rinsing and allow them to air dry thoroughly If Stains or Deposit occur n Use a quality polish that removes the toughest stain and mineral deposits n Do not use abrasive powders or steel wool Storage and Handling n If not used immediately, leave instruments in their original protective packaging n Avoid rough handling or contact that may cause scratching of the surface and subsequent damage to protective finish n Avoid sudden or hard impacts that may cause heat-treated instruments with cutting edges to clip or rack n Make sure instruments are completely dry n Place all sharp instruments so they don’t touch each other n Protect the tip of sharp instruments n Place instruments on holders in an opened position n Face all jaws the same way. Set cupped instruments so water cannot collect n Separate instruments of unlike metals www.kruuse.com
