SOLAR THE RESULTS Solar’s lean implementation has led to great results within areas such as productivity, delivery quality, supplier performance, handling of returns, time-to-market, net working capital, management competences, and employee satisfaction. The latest management evaluation shows improvements of between 50-200% for the managers who have been involved in lean, and value creation is up throughout the entire organisation. The improvements are particularly striking within those units who had the lowest scores before. While much of the work has focused on aligning and standardising processes, Solar’s organisations at national level were free to focus on areas of particular interest to them. In Sweden, for example, time-to-market has been improved from two months to one week, and lead times for the receipt of goods at warehouses has been reduced from 48 to 8 hours. In Denmark, customers have experienced a doubling in delivery quality since 2007. They have also seen Solar become capable of making new products available in just a few days rather than after several months. Very importantly, all Solar activities now have one overall aim: Creating value for the customer. Solar’s work with lean received the Confederation of Danish Industry’s Productivity 2010.
