Twin Fin Propulsion We deliver low-consuming propulsion designs satisfying the toughest demands and bringing safety into the Arctic. Twin Fin conventional with a twist For modern offshore vessels, azimuth thrusters are the most common dieselelectric propulsion system. However, the azimuth thrusters renders the vessel more vulnerable, especially in tough arctic seas, where a breakdown in the angle gears and other mechanical parts often means heading to a dry dock for repair. A more reliable alternative is a conventional diesel-electric or dieselmechanical propulsion with a long shaft and machinery positioned inside the hull. However, the gear and electric motor take up valuable space, and it is also difficult to retrofit on an azimuth-fitted vessel. The solution Odense Maritime Technology, Caterpillar Propulsion and Scandinavian Marine Group have designed the compact Twin Fin design based on well-proven and robust components. 3
